I am looking at setting us up with a new scoring system using transponders. Would have real time score board displaying your position hanging from the tower. This system would give us a sheet with your lap time and position for each lap.
Runabout riders can buy & mount a optional on-board display that will show the following:
* Race position
* Official lap times
* Laps completed and laps to go
* Gap to the rider in front and behind
* Gap to the rider in first place
. Plus you can download the info after the each race. Should save a ton of time for the postings by the scoring staff.
* Enhanced race experience
* Live and immediate feedback
* Improved race performance
* Easy to set up
* No maintenance
Will keep you posted. Scott.

I think that would be a good idea! Wounder if we have a transponder already, I have one that we use to race snocross, would that work, or would we have to buy a certain one like what you are talking about above, I mean I think it would be cool to have a display and all, but then again what is one of those going to run us?

What's the cost for this?

Does it also tell you when to look back up and turn :)?

I could be wrong but I think each individual transponder is $150-200.

Looking at many different options for transponder systems. The price range is $150 to $300 each for the transponders by them self. You don't want to know the cost of the decoders and programs ect. This might be out of the budget for me this time around. We'll see. I have one more quote coming yet, but I don't think it will be much better cost wise. The stuff is really cool as far as it's capabilities for race feed back. You racers will love to see the chit they are able to do. As I get closer to the season I'll put up some of the graphs they produce for the data input from the transponder, lap times, lap times compared to other racers in moto's, Instant results on a video screen. it's endless.............

This is all good but if there is an issue even having the races with insurance, people helping, etc.... why are we even thinking about this?? the thing to do right now is make phone calls and try to get anything you can for sponsorships so we can have a season... right?? call me krazy

Agreed, if there is no budget for anything ever maybe lay off the new gates and stuff until we get more of a budget? Just my $0.02 im no buisness man

Scott if you know any snowmobile race promoters maybe you could go in on a transponder system with them?? Then trade back and forth in summer/winter? split the costs

The IJSBA did research on this topic at least 5 years ago. I've been saying for years that there needs to be a leader board with the boat numbers and position posted with real time updating, much like every other form of motorsports has. The other thing that every other mainstream motorsport has is Sponsorship $$$$'s and lots more than anyone worldwide is able to get for watercross racing. The number one issue with transponders here in the U.S. is cost. In today's economy I just cannot see adding any cost to the racers or the promoters... With the price of fuel on the rise again that will add enough cost alone to racing. IMO, the only sensable thing to do is to keep all asspects of racing as simple as posible in order to reduce costs for everyone involved.
