Anyone help me out on this one. B2 blaster legal in APBA? :confused:
Asking for the "Iron Man" Eric....Mr. B2

The b2 was never legal for Sport Spec, and probably won't be, IMHO.

Sport Spec was a class created via a true grass roots effort by a handful of very enthusiastic and knowledgeable sport mod racers - after a lot of testing to make it fair, fun, and affordable for all the skis. The rules are exactly as they created them, with really no sanctioning body involvemet whatsoever, and the general consensus thus far is that the class is a hit. Since the racers decided not to allow the b2, my guess is it will be up to the racers to change that rule. IMHO, I don't expect the rule to change.

However, since the GLW is more about filling lines, and bending the rules is generally accepted to do so, especially in a class like Sport Spec, so I don't think racing it here will be an issue. Someone would have to really raise a stink before the Sport Spec rules would be strictly enforced.

OH crap....I don't think that's what Eric is going to want to hear. I don't mind it at GLW at all, but isn't one of or races an APBA event this year? Racine? Like a national stop or something? Thanks for the info.

You're welcome.

Yes, according to the schedule at the moment, Racine is a national IJSBA event (no APBA 'round these parts). From the looks of things (and keep in mind I'm not inside the loop at all on this stuff), UWP is involved along with the GLWT for Racine. You/Eric should go to the UWP website and send them an e-mail, asking for a ruling on the B2 now. The worst that could happen is they say "no", and he has to skip that event, or find a B1/HX to borrow, or race his B2 in a runabout class. My plans for this season are still up in the air as far as vintage and sport spec, so my blaster might be available for Racine.

From reading on pwc today, when others have asked (the racers involved with creating the sport spec rules) about allowing the B2 in sport spec, the responses have been a pretty solid "no", but I honestly have no idea what's happened so far since the rules were written - and they were written with the idea that the racers could change them once they saw how things played out. Perhaps the rule creators feel the B2 doesn't have a chance and would allow it to race??? I dunno. I know the general thoughts I've read have been that the B2 gets killed off the line, but does much better in the chop. I've only personally ridden a B2 once, for about 2 minutes, so I'm no expert, and I'm certainly no experienced B1 racer - I've just paid attention to how sport spec came about and read all could about it, as I figured it would be a class I'd consistently race, maybe someday.

Don't fret just yet...

Awesome I will email UWP thanks for the info. MAybe its time to so some work to the B2 and step it up to the runabout class. Ill get worked in that class so maybe its time to see if someone wants a B2??? We will just have to see what they say. Marto Im gunnin for you this year!!! Looks like I might just have to start a B1 project, problem is your the one that helps me so no suprises under my hood.

well if the hx is allowed I would see no reason why the B2 wouldn't be in the same class but rules are rules

The HX and B1 both meet "sport" size requirements as defined years ago by the IJSBA. The B2 is larger than the "sport" size requirements, thus it falls into the runabout category.

The HX is much closer in size to a B1 than a B2. I believe the HX is slightly narrower than a B1, but longer, maybe half a foot or so longer.

I think the width of the b2 is what qualifies it as a runabout and not sport. I might be wrong though.

Yep, it's pretty much all about the width. From the rule book:

5.2 SKI DIVISION
5.2.1 The Ski Division includes PWC which are designed for one person to stand on and are controlled from a pivoting
handlepole.
5.2.2 Watercraft competing in the Ski Division must conform to the following criteria:
1) Dry weight must be greater than 102kg (225 lb.) for 550cc classes;
2) Dry weight must be greater than 114kg (260 lb.) in all other classes;
3) Hull length cannot exceed 304.8cm (120 in.);
4) Hull width must be between 50.8cm (20 in.) and 76.2cm (30 in.).
5.3 SPORT DIVISION
5.3.1 The Sport Division includes PWC which are designed for one or more people and have a seat.
5.3.2 Watercraft competing in the Sport Division must conform to the following criteria:
1) Dry weight must be greater than 113kg (250 lb.) for 650cc classes;
2) Dry weight must be greater than 136kg (300 lb.) for 800cc classes;
3) Hull length cannot exceed 304.8cm (120 in.);
4) Hull width must be between 66.0cm (26 in.) and 96.5cm (38 in.).
5.4 RUNABOUT DIVISION
5.4.1 The Runabout Division includes PWC which are designed for one or more people and have a seat.
5.4.2 Watercraft competing in the Runabout Division must conform to the following criteria:
1) Dry weight must be greater than 155kg (340 lb.) for 660cc classes;
2) Dry weight must be greater than 182kg (400 lb.) for 800cc classes;
3) Dry weight must be greater than 216kg (475 lb.) for 1300cc classes;
4) Hull length cannot exceed 342.9cm (135 in.);
5) Hull width must be between 96.5cm (38 in.) and 127.0cm (50 in.).

What we really want is a 440/550 ONLY class....old school stand-up!

I have a better idea.

Craig, you should be DOWNSIZING your ski, not bulking it up for summer, so your should be riding an HX. The sport spec rules for the HX mean it will have a simple, stock, and reliable motor - just the way you like it - plus, it's still your favorite brand of ski. You'll just have to get used to not having your training wheels anymore :):):).

B2s are not that tough to sell, and B1s are readily available and affordable, so Eric can downsize as well, and he can stick with his brand of ski too.

I might also know a few guys interested in racing sport spec, if it's crowded enough.

Then, the nat'l events that come this way could get real interesting...

Scott let you run it last year. I would just run it in the rounds that are not the national tour stop. Maybe by then Marty will have a back up built by then ad he will let you use his for that race.

I'm thinking real hard about selling the B1 just because I will find it hard to fork out Over $1500+ in race fees alone for Suzy and I this year....Gotta cut the fat from somewhere, and my stand-up racing is all that really matters to me. I should get a good buck for the B1....its like new under the hood, all stock too! Lets bang SXR's dude! :D

O man i am tempted!!! I should be able to get some good money for my B2 but damn SXR's are expensive. Britt would kill me if I didnt have something for her to ride. We should get the girls to all race standups including riley. I think its time to retire the B2 tho.
